Green Hedges Summer Camp

A summer camp experience should be fun-filled and exciting! Our mission is to create a child-centered environment where children feel confident to participate, discover, and grow — and go home each day eager to return!

The Green Hedges and Montessori philosophies inform every aspect of Summer Camp at Green Hedges. Daily and weekly activities are designed to meet the developmental and social needs of 3 – 7 years olds. Our Summer Camp is open to the community and is not limited to current Green Hedges students.

Each Week Features

Camp Forms

Camp health forms and other documentation should be completed prior to the first day of camp or dropped off on the first day of camp. Each form may be downloaded and printed below and may be dropped off or emailed ahead of time to Camp Director Ms. Nichols.

Proof of Identity for first-time campers must be provided, in person, on or before the first day of camp. Please contact Registrar Ms. Green or Summer Camp Director Ms. Nichols to arrange for a time to show your child(ren)’s Proof of Identity.

COVID Safe

All camp policies and procedures will adhere to local and state COVID guidelines.

Terrific Faculty

Our energetic and nurturing camp staff consists primarily of our own Green Hedges School faculty and staff, who are experienced in the field of early childhood education and who can provide just the right balance between learning and fun.

Flexible Schedule

Children may attend half day or full day camp with options for extended hours in the morning and afternoon. Campers enroll for as many of the seven weeks as they wish; we believe that a long-term experience (3 weeks or more) helps children adjust to a summer camp routine and thus enjoy the experience with energy to spare.

Welcome to Green Hedges Summer Camp; we look forward to spending the summer with you!

GHS Summer Camp Information

Staff

We are proud to have members of our Green Hedges faculty, with years of classroom experience, lead our summer camp program. Staff training includes camp safety, activity planning, CPR, First Aid, and more, making your child’s experience both safe and fun. We offer low camper to counselor ratios in order to provide an optimal experience.

Atmosphere

The summer camp program provides both indoor and outdoor activities that utilize the outdoor classroom, science garden, playground, picnic grove, and academic building. Communication is important! We know parents like to hear about camp highlights. A weekly e-newsletter will be sent to parents each Friday.

Snack & Lunch

All campers should bring a water bottle and a morning snack with drink. In addition to snack, full day campers will need to bring their own lunch with a drink each day. Any allergy information and food restrictions will be addressed in detail after the registration process is complete.

Campers age four and under attending full day camp are required by the Virginia Department of Social Services to have rest time. Rest time will be right after lunch from 1:00-1:30 p.m. Green Hedges will supply cots/mats. Parents provide a small bag containing a blanket, pillow, and soft item to hold. Some children will choose to sleep during this time, and others will just rest and relax.

Extended Care: Morning and Afternoon

Fee-based Morning Care, which provides before-camp supervision, is available on a contract basis from 8 – 9 a.m. daily. After-camp supervision is also available on a contract basis from 3 – 4 p.m. daily. This additional time will be spent playing games, making crafts, and having fun indoors. You may enroll in the Extended Care program per week or select days at an a-la-carte rate upon availability.

Go Green

We embrace the idea of reducing our carbon footprint and teaching children to use resources mindfully. Please help minimize the use of paper by completing the online registration and forms. We also encourage you to pack snacks and lunches in reusable containers and bags to lessen the amount of trash produced during the camp day. Thank you!
